Our suggested itineraries

A day, a weekend,
or a few days more.

These are suggested routes to adapt to ticket availability, weather and your mobility.

01 / ONE DAY

A first look at Boulogne.

Morning: old town, ramparts and basilica. Then choose the castle museum or crypt to suit your interests.

Afternoon: head down to the centre and harbour, ending at the seafront. If you want to visit Nausicaá, give it a large part of the day instead and reduce the heritage visits.

02 / TWO DAYS

A weekend between town and ocean.

Day 1: fortified town, a cultural visit and a detour to the murals. Keep the evening for a local restaurant or show.

Day 2: Nausicaá, followed by the beach and a walk if time allows. If you prefer fresh air, replace the aquarium with Wimereux and a planned walk nearby.

03 / THREE DAYS OR MORE

A real break on the Opal Coast.

Days 1 and 2: divide your time between Boulogne, its heritage and the sea, without trying to fit too much in.

Day 3: choose the Two Capes to the north, or Condette and Hardelot to the south. With an extra day, add a family excursion, nature walk or guided activity.

Before setting off

The little details
that make the day.

A little preparation leaves more room for discovery.

Choosing your pace

For a short walk, pick a promenade, a neighbourhood or part of the ramparts. For half a day, combine a visit and a walk. For a coastal excursion, allow a day including travel and breaks.

Getting around

The upper town, centre and beach are at different levels. Allow for hills and check access if travelling with a pushchair or needing an accessible route. Plan your transport .

Booking ahead

For Nausicaá, visits, guided sports and shows, check availability before arriving. Prices and opening times are linked to official websites for current information.

Enjoying the coast

Check weather, tides and local signs. Stay on authorised paths and away from cliffs. Rules for dogs and swimming vary by place and season; beach access does not guarantee supervised swimming.

Looking for something specific?

On rainy days: Nausicaá, the crypt, museum, Maison de la Beurière or Casa San Martín, depending on opening times.

On a budget: old town, outdoor street art, the beach and Totemus trails; allow for any transport and parking costs.

For photographs: the basilica, Wimereux villas, Cap Blanc-Nez and Écault landscapes. Light and wind are part of the outing.

Your questions

Planning your visit
to Boulogne-sur-Mer.

What can I do in Boulogne-sur-Mer over a weekend?

Spend a day exploring the fortified town, a museum and the harbour. Set aside another half-day for Nausicaá, then choose a seafront walk or an outing to Wimereux. Adapt your plans to your pace and opening times.

What can I do when it rains?

Nausicaá, the crypt, castle museum and Casa San Martín offer different sides of Boulogne indoors. Hardelot Castle, Maréis and La Coupole are further options requiring travel. Check opening days first.

What can I visit for free in Boulogne-sur-Mer?

The old town, seafront and outdoor street art trail can be explored without an entrance ticket. Totemus also offers free treasure hunts. Transport, parking and extra activities may still cost money.

What can families do near Boulogne?

Alternate a visit such as Nausicaá with beach time and a Totemus treasure hunt. Other options include Maréis, Bagatelle in season and the Dragon of Calais. Check age, height and supervision requirements for each activity.

Can I explore Boulogne without a car?

The centre, fortified town and seafront can be combined on foot depending on your address and mobility, with some uphill sections. Check transport options before planning nearby resorts and excursions.

Where can I walk my dog?

Rules depend on the beach, season and nature site. Check signs and regulations before setting off. Mont Saint-Frieux does not allow dogs, even on leads. Contact us before booking to ask about pets in your apartment.
